Medicaid provides health care coverage for people in the U.S. who can not afford it, including low-income families with dependent children and people who are aged, blind, or disabled. Medicaid covers hospital bills, physician services, home health care, and long-term nursing home care. Medicaid is a joint federal-state insurance program, administered by each state and funded jointly by the federal and state governments. The federal government has general guidelines for each state to qualify for federal funds, but there is considerable variation in how states set Medicaid eligibility requirements, what services they cover, and the rates that they pay to providers. You can also learn more by going to the U.S. government's consumer website on Medicaid.
